Manuscript Topics

Building on the established focus on moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), health researchers have invested a great deal of time and effort in recent years on "sedentary behaviour", or "sitting time". Evidence is emerging that high or prolonged periods of sitting are detrimental to health often; it is claimed, independently of MVPA. Different types of behaviour have been studied, necessitating a variety of measurement approaches. Moreover, interventions are being conducted, which initially have focused on sedentary screen time for young people but now include adult workplaces and other settings. Some translational science is evident, such as sedentary behaviour guidelines. AIMS Public Health will publish a special issue on sedentary behaviour. This will have a focus on advancing the field of sedentary behaviour through either novel research findings or translational science. All methods will be considered, including qualitative, quantitative, mixed method and systematic review approaches. Papers can be empirical or theoretical but must highlight how the paper advances knowledge in this field. Authors are encouraged to submit an abstract for initial review. The guest editors will then encourage a full submission, if appropriate.
