Manuscript Topics

Probiotics are non-pathogenic bacteria which are part of the gut microbiome. These bacteria have been reported to have immunomodulatory actions as well as anti-biofilm effects. They have been found to be beneficial in models of inflammatory bowel disease, wound infection after burns and bacterial sepsis. As antibiotic resistance is rising and less toxic immunomodulatory agents are needed for treatment of severe infections, research into the potential of probiotics as therapeutic agents is warranted. With this we invite manuscript submissions into the following topics:

• Relative antimicrobial and/or bacterial virulence reducing activity of different probiotics
• Discovery of new probiotics with antimicrobial and/or virulence reducing activity
• Mechanism(s) of antimicrobial and/or virulence reducing activity of different probiotics
• Immunomodulatory effects of different probiotics in vivo or in vitro
• Mechanisms of immunomodulatory effects of different probiotics in vivo or in vitro
• Microbiome changes in different disease models and how it impacts the immune system
