Manuscript Topics

We invite authors to contribute original research articles for consideration for publication in the AIMS Materials Science special issue “Peridynamics”. These articles will be open access. Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. All manuscripts will be peer-reviewed before their acceptance for publication.

Peridynamics is a new continuum mechanics formulation. Because of its mathematical structure, it is a very suitable technique to model damage evolution process including crack initiation, propagation, branching, etc. It also has a length scale parameter called “horizon” which makes peridynamics a non-local continuum mechanics formulation and can capture physical phenomena showing non-classical behaviour. Moreover, original peridynamic formulation has been extended to other fields to model heat transfer, electrical conduction, moisture diffusion, etc. Therefore, peridynamics can now be used as a multiphysics framework with damage predicting capability. This special issue focuses on the recent developments of peridynamic mechanical and mathematical models and its applications on the solution of multiscale and multiphysics problems including damage and fracture as well as numerical solution methods.
