Manuscript Topics
The outbreak of COVID-19 has highlighted the important role of nurses and the nursing care provided. Nurses were not only on the front lines of critical care, but they also supported community and public health by caring for patients and families in the communities and preventing the spread of the virus in the population.
Many nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic implemented nursing care under difficult working conditions, with insufficient human resources, without personal protective equipment and sometimes in organizational chaos. However, despite the difficulties, nurses have shown great willingness to address public health issues at multiple levels and beyond hospital care. Annette Kennedy, the president of the International Council of Nurses mentioned that “the COVID-19 pandemic has shown the world the role that nurses and midwives play in maintaining human health throughout life”.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused demographic, social, economic, cultural and technological changes, as well as ongoing modifications in health services and health care organizations that challenge nurses, who have to provide advanced and specialized nursing care. Especially the last years, during the pandemic, and due to constrained mobility of the citizens, nurses are the key professionals for supporting accessible healthcare services at home with the use of the latest technologies that support remote teleconsultation and support patients at home. In a few years, telenursing will be the basic form of nursing services, and it seems more of a necessity for practicing healthcare services, rather than an additional skill.
This Special issue will explore to address the new perspectives and challenges that emerged in nursing care after the pandemic for addressing the health problems and needs of patients and community members. These problems can vary from physical aspects to mental health domains and also to spiritual needs and to social dimensions. Additionally, the special issue will explore the impact of nursing care provision to nursing staff in terms of physical and mental consequences, job satisfaction, burnout and quiet quitting attitudes. Researchers are invited to submit manuscripts addressing these challenges in the form of original research papers, review articles, commentaries, expert opinions, and commentaries.
