Against the backdrop of intensifying global efforts to combat climate change, green investments have taken on a strategic role in promoting sustainable economic growth, with direct and indirect implications for public health. The novelty of this study lies in exploring a rarely addressed area of research that links green investments to public health outcomes, as measured by life expectancy. Thus, this study has two main objectives: First, in an initial phase, we explore how air quality, lifestyle factors, and economic growth influence life expectancy. Subsequently, the study analyses the effect of greenfield investments, energy efficiency, and gross domestic product (GDP) on environmental degradation (greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions). To achieve this dual-objective approach, we constructed an original panel dataset covering 35 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member states for the period 2003–2023. Utilizing non-linear econometric modelling, our findings reveal that greenhouse gas emissions significantly reduce life expectancy. Moreover, our research has shown that green energy used efficiently can act as a critical mitigator of environmental pressure related to the context of greenfield investments and rapid economic expansion. These results underscore the need for targeted health policies that drive economic growth through resilient investments, thus sustaining gains in human longevity. It also helps integrate the evaluation of companies' economic and financial results with the assessment of positive externalities and non-financial results recently introduced in the European directives on integrated reporting.
