Manuscript Topics
This special issue explores the cutting edge of computational modeling and numerical methods in the interdisciplinary context of bio-mathematics and fluid dynamics. The collection aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the advances and significant applications of mathematical and computational techniques suitable for the study of advection-diffusion models describing complex biological and fluid dynamic phenomena, exploring applications ranging from epidemic diffusion, chemotaxis processes, and hemodynamics to water dynamics, atmospheric flows and other geophysical phenomena. Emphasizing the critical intersection of biology, mathematics, and engineering present in these processes, manuscripts in the collection will show how accurate computational tools coupled with robust and efficient numerical methods are indispensable to address the intricate challenges posed by these fields in real-world applications. In particular, approaches based on ordinary and partial differential equations, stochastic models, and agent-based simulations will be considered. Methods ranging from classical deterministic finite volume and finite element approaches to stochastic uncertainty quantification methods and more recent data-driven machine learning techniques will be thoroughly examined.
