Manuscript Topics

This special issue aims to record a high quality and well-focused workshop on “Delay Differential Equations: Applications to Immunology and Infectious Diseases (DDEs-AIIDs”, which will be held at the United Arab Emirates University from 23--24 Nov. 2023.

A growing interest has been shown in delay differential equations (DDEs) due to their important applications in biology, medicine, immunology, and epidemiology. Using mathematical models and DDEs of infectious diseases, we can study the pathogenesis of disease processes, predict outbreaks, and minimize outbreak severity and frequency.

The main aim of this focused workshop DDEs-AIID is to bring together researchers in mathematics and life sciences with an interest in mathematical modeling with delay differential equations and their applications to immunology and infectious diseases, host-pathogen interactions, and disease progression through computational techniques and analysis. There will be a round table discussion on open problems and questions in the context of infectious diseases, cancer, and chronic diseases, as well as future directions in multidisciplinary research.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
• DDEs mathematical analysis and biological interpretation.
• Models of host-pathogen interactions
• Models of cancer immune response
• Models of immunological regulation
• Therapy and vaccination models
• Models of multiscale immunoepidemiology
• Optimal control with therapy
• Immune response, signaling pathways, and regulatory networks

This Workshop will present new theoretical and numerical methods, enhance interdisciplinary interaction between mathematics and life sciences, and stimulate collaborations in immunobiological modeling.
