Manuscript Topics

The interest in complex adaptive system has largely increased. In a complex adaptive system, the agents follow simple rules and have randomness in their interactions. In particular the system is able to adapt and to react if the agents are altered. Emergent patterns appear as a consequence of the interactions among the agents.

A unified modeling approach for complex adaptive systems appears utopian. The interactions can firstly occur at different scales and secondly the emerging behaviors cannot be always described by employing one only approach.

This special issue is devoted to the modeling of complex adaptive systems by employing mathematical and engineering methods. In particular the issue aims to collect both original research and survey papers which focus on new methods coming from mathematics, engineering, network theory, information sciences and biophysics.
