Manuscript Topics

In recent decades, the word sustainability has entered the common parlance of the scientific and non-scientific community. A much talked about, much complex concept.
The food systems of the Mediterranean region are facing many challenges coming from different dimensions: From the climate crisis to the need to develop more sustainable agronomic practices, from changing demographics and the consequent changes in eating habits to new forms of territorial aggregations.
The United Nations has long since set the course with the 17 major goals and the literature is debating how to achieve them effectively and efficiently. This calls for innovative solutions, which are able to preserve the sustainability of the agrifood system. Innovation-sustainability nexus has gained ground in recent years in the academic and policy debate, with the purpose of boosting sustainable transition, especially in a region like the Mediterranean. Set against this background, a multi-stakeholder approach has become necessary and no longer just a virtuous practice.
This special issue lays the foundations for a debate on this issue, seeking contributions of a multidisciplinary nature, which manage to integrate technical aspects with more social ones, always with an eye on policy implications.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
1. Digitalization for agri-food system
2. Innovation in agri-food system
3. Sustainable transition
4. Regenerative agriculture
5. International agri-food policies
6. Social perspective in agri-food transition
