Over the past few years, a paradigm shift has occurred in urban transport systems. The continuously increasing usage of private vehicles has generated various environmental, social, and economic issues. How to balance the current and future travel needs and build a sustainable, resilient, and smart transport system to achieve smart city development is still a challenging task for transport and urban planning. Recently, research on mobility solutions (e.g., on-demand and shared mobility service, mobility-as-a-service, smart road reservation, smart parking, connected and automated vehicles, and artificial intelligence empowered mobility solutions, etc.) has been increasingly turning toward recognizing contemporary challenges in terms of smart mobility systems and smart cities. This special issue in Urban Resilience and Sustainability (URS) aims to promote frontier studies and technologies relating to mobility and transport for smart cities (including modeling, simulation, optimization, operations, management, and control), and provide an opportunity to share knowledge and exchange ideas on state-of-the-art topics covering all smart mobility solutions in urban transport systems. Articles must clearly relate to sustainability, resilience, or smart mobility systems in the urban transport context and the respective bodies of literature, but may range in specific topics including:
On-demand and shared mobility services
Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS)
Human mobility resilience
Sustainable and green transportation
Electrification of urban transport
Self-driving vehicles in smart mobility
Artificial intelligence (AI) and big data in smart mobility
New challenges and opportunities in smart mobility development
