Theme: Geospatial Technologies in Urban Environments

Introduction of the special issue
As humanity’s primary habitat, urban areas are worthy of much scientific inquiry to better understand their spatial characteristics and processes. Unfortunately, the complex and heterogeneous nature of urban environments make them difficult to study at fine spatial scales. However, advances in geospatial technologies provide tools, algorithms, and techniques necessary to accurately map, model, and monitor complex urban environments at a variety of scales. This special issue seeks innovative and original studies that implement geospatial technologies to investigate topics in urban environments.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
• Urban forests and urban vegetation
• Rural to urban
• Infrastructure (roads, buildings, etc.) assessment
• 3-dimensional vegetation and building modeling
• Urban quality of life analyses
• Urban drone applications
• Population estimation
• Urban ecosystem services
• Disaster mitigation
• Urban sprawl
• Multiple-scale remote sensing and GIS integration
• Urban heat island
• Thermal characteristics of urban areas

Paper submission
 All manuscripts will be peer-reviewed before their acceptance for publication.
The deadline for manuscript submission is 30 November 2018.
