Inequalities are fundamental in Mathematics as they allow to compare values and express relationships where equality isn't necessary, enabling the modelling of constraints and limits in various situations. They are crucial for understanding ranges of solutions, solving problems with unknown values, and are essential in fields like physics, economics, and computer science, to name only a few. They are used to define constraints or limitations in mathematical models, representing boundaries for possible values of variables. In essence, inequalities are a cornerstone of mathematical thinking, providing tools to model, analyse, and understand a wide range of real-world situations and mathematical concepts.
AIMS Mathematics is launching a Special Issue “Mathematical Inequalities and Applications”, that will cover the following general topics:
• Combinatorial inequalities
• Linear inequalities of matrices
• Inequalities involving eigenvalues and eigenvectors
• Inequalities in real analysis
• Inequalities involving derivatives and differential and integral operators
• Inequalities for sums, series and integrals
• Inequalities in the complex plane
• Differential inequalities involving functions of a single real variable
• Inequalities applied to PDEs
• Functional inequalities, including subadditivity, convexity, quasi-convexity etc.
• Inequalities in approximation theory
• Linear operator inequalities
• Inequalities and extremum problems involving convexity
