The growing importance of control and optimization has been realized in recent years. This is due not only to theoretical developments in these fields, but also because of numerous applications to science, engineering, and economics. The topics of this Special Issue should cover many important areas of control and optimization including numerical optimization, stochastic optimization, optimal control with PDE, and variational analysis.
