Systems neuroscience studies neuronal circuits to understand how cells work together to gives rise to cognitive processes. This involves using variety of experimental techniques, especially electrophysiological and optical recordings to probe neuronal activity form a single neuron level to large neuronal populations. This provides crucial information on which theoretical models can be built to explain processes like memory, perception, motor behaviour or decision making.
