Manuscript Topics

The debate on the prospects of the agri-food chains according to the circular economic model has evolved over the last twenty years and is attracting growing interest, both in the scientific and in the political field, due to the potential responses that these can provide with respect to agricultural, environmental and energy issues.

With the expansion of global food chains, academic and political debates have analyzed innovative forms of food supply chain organizations aimed at reconnecting producers and consumers by localizing agricultural and food production. These include short supply chains, alternative food networks, local farming systems and direct sales.

The circular economy represents the new paradigm for redefining the future of agribusinesses and recreating a balanced coexistence of ecological and economic systems. Research is therefore called upon to question the current linear agri-food systems, finding solutions for the transition to circular economic paths in which agri-food waste is transformed into shared resources.

The special issue welcomes papers on the following topics:
• Integrated models of production, distribution and consumption
• Business models
• Business sustainability
• Consumption models
