Manuscript Topics

With rapid economic development and industrialization, societies are generating huge amounts of solid materials from activities in the agricultural, commercial, domestic and industrial sectors. Generation of solid wastes exerts pressure on natural resources and seriously undermines sustainable development. The goal of promoting sustainable development has increased interest in recycling waste into waste-based products and applying those products in many fields. These applications include environmental remediation, as many environmental components (e.g. water, soils) are polluted, and the use of waste-based products can help restore the quality of the environment. However, to promote this use of waste-based products, it is imperative to produce stronger scientific evidence regarding their suitability and efficiency in sustainable remediation. Although some waste and waste-based products have been evaluated for remediation, there is still a need to find environmentally friendly, efficient and long-acting solutions for mitigating and remediating pollutants in the environment.

The aim of this Special Issue is to present an integrated and cross-disciplinary approach to sustainable waste management and remediation of environmental components where applicable, and to report the latest achievements in characterization of waste-based products and their efficiency in ex-situ and in-situ remediation of water, soil and groundwater.

Key words:

• Circular waste management
• Green remediation materials
• Valorization of novel waste-based products
• Organic and inorganic amendments
• Metals and metalloids
• Persistent organic pollutants
• Contaminant removal and stabilization
• Monitoring contaminants
• Laboratory and field remediation
