Biomass has enormous potential to be the source of renewable energy. The global on land biomass production is noted to be 4500 EJ while transport energy demand is only about 90 EJ. The woody or lignocellulosic biomass production potential of the degraded or abandoned or surplus land is reported to be about 50 EJ. The amount biomass that can be used for the renewable energy sectors among regions because of ecological, technical, and economic factors. The potential sources of biomass include municipal solid waste, forestry by-products, energy crops and agricultural residues. This special issue calls for papers on technical, socioeconomic and environmental issues of renewable energy from agri-residues and energy crops, and their rebound effects. The manuscript may report experimental results, theoretical analysis and modelling (solid, liquid and gaseous fuels, CHP). Topics will be covered by this special issue include, but are not limited to:

• Agri-residues management
• Biomass logistics
• Pre-treatments & experimental equipment
• Onsite utilization of agri-residues
• Value added product development
• Renewable energy systems from agri-residues
• Thermochemical and biochemical conversion
• Technology development
• Carbon cycle/carbon sequestration
• Co-firing of solid biofuels
• Economic and environmental aspects of renewable energy
• Life cycle assessment of renewable energy

Paper submission
All manuscripts will be peer-reviewed before their acceptance for publication.
The deadline for manuscript submission is 30 June 2015.
