Artificial Intelligence (AI) is providing a series of data mining and analytics methods which can be implemented in systems, resulting in data-driven architectures which facilitate the decision-making process. Especially, visual data & pattern analysis-based AI technology is the most important one to provide very personalized service in our smart life with the various edge devices and platform. Edge computing and IoT connect the physical world to the Internet, generating a large amount of valuable data about its processes. Among them, visual data is very usual and occupies a large amount of portion. Therefore, various vision& pattern data-based artificial intelligence technologies are being tried to adopt, and service construction through interworking with cloud is accelerating.


Despite the fast improvement of AI algorithms and smart sensors, the service in terms of smartness around people is often not satisfactory for their users, resulting in rejection of artificial intelligence technology. To make successful service and platform, more advances are needed in various fields such as smart healthcare, smart home, smart security, smart transportation, smart media, smart city infra, and so on.


In this special issue, various AI convergence studies based on visual & pattern data processing algorithms and technologies, trends, and directions of the latest technologies are recommended for helping more smart daily life of human. Also, we welcome to submit your review articles and original research papers in the field of visual data and pattern analysis. Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
