Manuscript Topics

Dynamic Complex Networks (DCNs) are critical models for understanding a wide array of real-world systems whose properties and behaviors evolve over time. This special issue, “Advances in Dynamic Complex Networks and Applications” is dedicated to exploring the cutting-edge theories and methodologies in the study of DCNs, with a particular focus on network evolution theory. We draw an analogy with evolutionary models of stabilizing and diversifying selection to highlight the adaptive processes that shape network behavior over time.

Defining and analyzing the behavior of DCNs presents significant challenges, as the global dynamics at the ensemble (macroscopic) level are deeply intertwined with the coupled dynamics of individual constituents at the microscopic level. The interactions between these levels are crucial in understanding how collective behaviors, such as synchronization, asynchronization, and other emergent phenomena, arise within networks. Moreover, these behaviors are often subject to critical transitions or abrupt failures, especially when the system is perturbed. Understanding these complex interactions is essential for both theoretical advancements and practical applications.

The special issue will cover a broad range of topics, including but not limited to:
• Theoretical models and algorithms for analyzing network evolution
• Correlation between microscopic interactions and macroscopic emergent behaviors
• Methods for predicting and controlling critical transitions in networks
• Applications of DCNs in various fields, such as biology, social sciences, engineering, and economics
• The role of artificial intelligence and data-driven approaches in enhancing the analysis and management of dynamic networks

We invite researchers to contribute original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and case studies that bridge the gap between theory and application in DCNs. This special issue aims to serve as a pivotal resource for those seeking to deepen their understanding of how complex networks evolve, adapt, and function in dynamic environments, offering insights into the underlying principles that govern these intricate systems.
