Preparation of borax pentahydrate from effluents of iron nanoparticles synthesis process

  • Received: 29 September 2018 Accepted: 11 December 2018 Published: 19 December 2018
  • Borax pentahydrate, a valuable natural mineral with a wide range of applications, was successfully synthesized using the effluents obtained from the process of the production of nanoscale Fe which is used for the removal and degradation of a wide range of organic and inorganic contaminants. Core-shell spherical iron nanoparticles were produced using the liquid-phase reduction of FeCl3. The waste residual solution obtained was then used as the feed material in a facile decomposition/evaporation process, resulting in the formation of Borax pentahydrate. The results obtained are of economic and environmental importance and may also lead to the wider application of iron nanoparticles for efficient contamination removal.
