Manuscript Topics
Historically, the task of protecting health has been closely linked to that of curing diseases, especially when infectious diseases were the main cause of morbidity and mortality. After the successes achieved in controlling classical microbial diseases, thanks to the availability of vaccines and antibiotics, other issues such as quality of life and well-being, food safety, air pollution prevention, and water quality protection have become prominent. Alongside these, new health challenges have also emerged in the field of infectious diseases, such as the pandemic spread of viruses previously confined to limited geographic areas or animal reservoirs. Addressing these problems requires a global approach; according to the World Health Organization, “One Health” is an approach that aims to design and promote programs, policies, regulations, and research in which multiple sectors communicate and work together to achieve better health outcomes on a global scale. To this end, resulting actions must jointly address the interconnections between human health and the health of animals and ecosystems. Among the areas of intervention are food safety, zoonosis control, combating healthcare-associated infections and antibiotic resistance, environmental pollution prevention and control, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and vaccination. Surveillance is essential to monitor the spread of diseases, identify new threats, and evaluate the effectiveness of public health interventions. The ability to promptly monitor disease trends and intervene quickly is crucial to reduce the impact on the population.
This special issue, titled “One Health: surveillance, prevention and control measures for global health”, explores methodologies and strategies to improve health surveillance, implement effective preventive measures, and control disease spread.
Are welcome research papers on various aspects related to the problem of the spread of pathogens in environment and healthcare setting, the antimicrobial resistance, the prevention and control of infections, surveillance, environmental pollution and monitoring, food safety.
Researchers are invited to submit manuscripts addressing these challenges in the form of original research papers, review articles, expert opinions, and commentaries.
Keywords: One health; surveillance; prevention and control; infections; food safety; environmental contamination and monitoring
