Manuscript Topics
The traditional approach to nutritional epidemiology is to relate single nutrients to particular diseases, however there has been a recent emphasis on research which identifies holistic dietary patterns in populations as determinants of disease. Investigating dietary patterns better reflects the real-life scenario that foods are not consumed in isolation, and allows us to look at the impact of overall diet on health. Furthermore, studying dietary patterns could have greater public health impact since results may be more easily translated to public health messages than research on specific nutrients. In 2014, AIMS Public Health will publish a special issue on dietary patterns and their associations with cardiovascular disease and obesity.
