Manuscript Topics

While the coral-dinoflagellate association is central to coral health, both coral and dinoflagellates rely on complex associations with a range of other microbes (i.e., viruses, bacteria, archaea and fungi). Corals are particularly sensitive to small shifts in their environment, making these associations precarious. This special issue aims to provide the latest knowledge on beneficial microbial associations with corals including a broad view of current trends to better promote coral health.

With this we invite contributions addressing any aspect of beneficial associations of microbes and corals, including but not limited to the following topics:
• Novel approaches towards identifying beneficial coral microbes
• Roles in supporting coral health
• Mechanisms involved in beneficial host-microbe interactions
• The breakdown of beneficial associations leading to dysbiosis
• Novel approaches to manipulating the coral holobiont and/or mitigating coral health
