The drug-coated or drug-eluting balloon (DCB, DEB) technology has emerged as an additional tool in the arsenal of interventional cardiology devices. It delivers anti-proliferative drugs to local arterial tissue through a single prolonged coated balloon angioplasty inflation, preventing restenosis and thrombosis while leaving no implant behind. This strategy theoretically reduces the risk of a late inflammatory response to device components without hindering positive vessel remodeling and vasomotion. DCBs, when used carefully and with good technique, may have a role in the treatment of several lesion subsets, such as in-stent restenosis, long vessel disease, or side branch bifurcations in native coronary disease.
With the increasing interest this technology is attracting across different clinical specialties, along with its potential impact on physicians, patients, and industry stakeholders in the field, the DEBS congress is both timely and essential.
Indeed, the aim of the DEBS scientific board in designing the two-day program was to provide a platform for experts to discuss the clinical efficacy and safety of DCBs, highlight the latest innovations and advancements in the field, and simultaneously identify the challenges and opportunities for future development.
Live coronary cases, as well as live in-the-box cases, will be offered throughout the two-day session, providing a unique and hands-on learning experience for attendees. During session breaks in the main arena, we will host “five-minute chit-chats” with Key Opinion Leaders.
These brief conversations are designed to provide attendees with insights into the vision and direction the field is poised to take in the near future.
Finally, the DEBS congress aims to serve as a forum for cutting-edge research, providing an opportunity for investigators to present their latest findings and explore potential future developments for this technology.
By bringing together interventional and clinical cardiologists, researchers, the DEBS congress can facilitate multidisciplinary dialogue and foster advancements in DCB research and development.
Ultimately, this can advance the standard of care for patients affected by cardiovascular disease and improve their clinical outcomes.
The entire scientific board of DEBS looks forward to welcoming you to Rome to share the exciting momentum of this technology, discuss the shadow aspects related to its utilization, and explore the future adoption of it in our clinical practice!
