Manuscript Topics

Composite materials and structures are increasingly being used in mechanical, civil infrastructure, automotive, biomedical, and aerospace engineering applications. They are subjected to complex in‐service loadings and service environments. For the operational performance, safety and reliability evaluation of such materials and structures, the ultimate load bearing capacity and residual strength of composite materials and structures under static and dynamic loadings and service environments have to be determined at the design stage itself. Especially under axial and flexural tensile and compressive static and dynamic loadings, the progressive failure in composite materials and structures caused by post‐first‐ply failures, post‐buckling failures, and progressive damage development in the material due to fatigue, has to be investigated and characterized. This study has established itself as a very active and important research field especially during the past two decades.

The objective of the special issue is to present recent developments in the above mentioned research field. Research works encompassing various topics dealing with different aspects and perspectives in this field are very welcome, with target applications in materials, mechanical, civil infrastructure, automotive, biomedical, and aerospace engineering. These articles will be published in AIMS Materials Science as Open Access papers. Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. All manuscripts will be peer‐reviewed before their acceptance for publication.
