Pilgrimage is a journey motivated by religion; it plays a significant role in almost all world religions. Major pilgrimage centers around the globe exert a powerful pull in attracting tens of thousands of believers and tourists all year round. AIMS Geosciences journal invites manuscripts from a wide range of academics which includes geographers, sociologists, economics, anthropologists, psychologists, tourism planners, researchers, and hospitality professionals for its forthcoming special issue on pilgrimage. The issue will focus on diverse issues related to pilgrimage ranging from conceptual and theoretical issues to sacred space and religious traditions.
Manuscripts may focus on areas such as (but not limited to) :
• Interpreting Sacred Geography in terms of local and regional traditions
• Sacred spaces and places
• Socio-cultural Impact of tourism on Heritage sites
• Pilgrimage Experience of believers versus non-believers
• Pilgrimage: Religious prescription versus practicesNew trends of pilgrimage
