Manuscript Topics
Industrial sustainability has become a critical factor of the global marketplace, shaped and propelled by the transformative advancements of the Industrial Revolutions (IRs), such as IR4.0 and emerging IR5.0. These revolutions aim to increase industrial performance, focusing on modern, smarter, resilient, and human-centered industries. While these technological advancements should promote a sustainable economy, a significant gap remains between current practices and ideal outcomes. To overcome challenges, current drivers and barriers must be reevaluated and better addressed. Industrial sustainability is becoming an essential component of interconnection between industry performance, economic, environmental, and social factors. However, many questions remain unanswered about the role of the latest industrial revolutions in promoting sustainability.
As a result, the goal of this special issue is to bring together technological advancement and the sustainability movement. Given that no industry is entirely sustainable or fully modernized, this special issue aims to explore roadmaps for progress. We invite submissions addressing (but limited to):
• Theoretical and conceptual approaches to sustainability in the latest industrial revolutions
• Empirical studies of sustainable IR4.0/5.0 implementations
• Studies demonstrating best practices
• Studies assessing sustainable practices of modern industries
• Decision innovations addressing the current drivers and/or barriers
• Advancing policy and governance frameworks.
